Papers, 1850-1909 and undated, include biographical materials, business papers, diaries, memorandum book, miscellaneous, and notebooks. His diaries 1862-1865, describe his experience in the Civil War, Michigan Infantry 4th Regiment, his march from Detroit (Mich.) to the Battle of Murfreesboro (Tenn.), camp life, equipment, cavalry pickets, and fighting at Chattanooga and Trenton (Tenn.). One diary, 1855, is of a trip from Illinois to Nevada. Business papers relate to the sale of merchandise in Paw Paw (Mich.). A treasurer's book of the Ida Oil Well Company, of Kent County, Ontario, Canada, 1866 is also included in the collection.

Buck was from Paw Paw (Mich.). He served in the Michigan Cavalry, 4th Regiment, Co. C and Co. A, being honorably discharged with the rank of Capt. in 1865.
